The USA Network show is coming to an end soon and fans cannot wait to see the conclusion to the crime drama series. Queen of the South star and writer Ryan O’Nan recently answered some fan questions on his Instagram, including one about that hallucination scene in season two.
In actor O’Nan’s Instagram post, he answered three questions sent in by a fan of Queen of the South.
O’Nan answered the last question, which was: “In episode 206, in Bolivia, when she [Teresa Mendoza] wakes up from the hallucination, and she says ‘where’s James?’
“Is she making the choice of him in that moment?”
The King Geroge actor answered, saying: “My answer to that would be, I think when she wakes up from the hallucination with El Santo, she doesn’t really know that she is awake necessarily.”
He continued: “The queen in her dream has told her to choose.
“We’ve seen this version where Guero dies, we’ve seen this version where James dies, and it tells her to choose.
“But when she first wakes up, she only sees Guero there above her.
“So she’s wondering if she’s made this monstrous choice just for this brief second and asks where James is.
“And then she sees that James is there too,” he remarked.
“The fact that they’re both there kind of snaps her back into reality a little,” O’Nan concluded.
Star Alice Braga, who plays Teresa Mendoza, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the relationship between Teresa and James (played by Peter Gadiot) and addressed fan concerns that James will die, leaving Teresa all alone.
She said: “The cartel world is very harsh, especially when it comes to matters of the heart”.
Teresa’s life is a dangerous one and Braga states that “love weakens you”.
Queen of the South follows Terera as she leaves her hometown in Mexico to begin building her drug empire in the US.
Her former right-hand man, James Valdez was previously in a relationship with Teresa and the two have remained close.
After escaping captivity by enemy Devon Finch (Jamie Hector), James returned to New Orleans at the end of season four.
James previously risked his life for Teresa, warning her that the CIA is coming.
After her godson was killed, fans are worried that James’ return could mean he will die before the finale.
Executive producer Benjamin Daniel Lobato also told EW that “James is back because he loves this woman”.
Queen of the South was developed by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller, and originally premiered in 2016 on the USA Network.
Due to COVID-19, filming for the final season was postponed but the season eventually aired in April, with the finale scheduled for June 9.
Queen of the South season 5 is available to watch on USA Network.
