Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday and the final hurdle is fast approaching. EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis remains the favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy with partner Giovanni Pernice. Yet professional dancer and judge, Gary Edwards, was disappointed with her latest routine.
Musicals Week saw the Strictly couples bring their favourite characters from the stage to life.
Rose and Giovanni took on the challenging Quickstep to Love Is An Open Door from Frozen.
The pair had great fun dancing the routine but the judges pointed out a small mistake at the end.
Dancing With The Stars expert Gary Edwards spoke to Express.co.uk about what he thought of the dance.
He said: “I thought Rose and Giovanni were just ‘good’. I got so excited when they got Frozen.
“Again it was just ‘cute’, there was no light and shade for me, it looked as if it was something they had just thrown together.
“I really gave it an eight, but it was at no point a 10.”
On whether she has a chance of winning the competition, he said: “Rose and Giovanni have been pretty much regular.
“Can Rose win? Absolutely yes, they all have good days and bad days.
“Rose and Giovanni probably have the least bad days, so if you look on consistency then I understand why they are the favourites.”
However, he did say they could be up against some fierce competition, which could leave them in danger.
He said: “If John [Whaite] and Johannes [Radebe] get the right dances in the leadup, they are going to be hard to ignore.
“Frozen was the biggest disappointment because I thought ‘oh my god they are going to be amazing’.
“And it just didn’t light my fire at all.”
This weekend the couple will be switching things up with a fierce Paso Doble to California Dreamin’ by Sia.
Fans believe they have genuine chemistry and their strong friendship has resonated with viewers.
Match’s relationship expert, Hayley Quinn, commented on their connection in their latest dance.
She told Express.co.uk: “Last week saw an intensely romantic dance from Rose and Giovanni.
“This week their bond seemed as strong as ever after last week’s moving performance.
“An example of this is when Giovanni showed his worry about falling out of sync on some steps, to which Rose jumped in to reassure him, ‘don’t worry it was still a good dance!’.
“The fact Rose is confident enough to be the one reassuring Giovanni shows how close they’ve become.
“Us as viewers are still left with the question as to whether this platonic or something more?
“It’s still hard to say considering Rose is in a relationship, but both are incredibly tactile with one another, reaffirming their connection on and off the dance floor.”
The EastEnders star is in a long-term relationship with boyfriend Samuel Arnold.
