Spoilers: Boss reveals next stage of Yasmeen's story in Corrie

Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) in Coronation Street was finally released from prison during the 60th anniversary week following her attack on Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew).

Since her release, Yasmeen has been finding things difficult living in Weatherfield. She’s been completing cleaning chores in a similar way she would when she was living with Geoff, and is finding it hard to accept her life is free of her abuse and prison.

Now Geoff has gone, Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has revealed what’s next for Yasmeen:

‘We are very keen to reflect the real-world experiences that people like Yasmeen go through. Escaping your abuser whether that is death, incarceration or flee makes people say ‘you’re free’ but it’s not over. The psychological impacts can last forever and the practical side of what happened to her – Geoff was embezzling money from her and taking out loans – that will come home to roost and threaten her recovery.’

We were all happy to see Geoff’s reign of terror come to an end, but as Iain added in a recent chat, Geoff’s hold over Yasmeen hasn’t disappeared yet:

‘Geoff’s shadow will remain over her – we actually will see Geoff again a few times through dramatic devices over the new year. You will see Geoff again, but he isn’t back from the dead. It’s a richly psychological place Yasmeen finds herself in – these ordeals go on for a long time.’

Since she’s been back, Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) has tried to offer advice to Yasmeen, and Iain disclosed that Tim’s (Joe Duttine) mother will be the person Yasmeen needs in this difficult time:

‘Elaine will be a ray of light – Paula Wilcox is absolutely fantastic. She is pivotal in Yasmeen’s ongoing recovery – here will be an odd couple, sometimes humorous double act like friendship. So, there will be some light stuff along with the heartbreak and psychological drama.’
