Since Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) returned to Coronation Street, she’s been struggling to adjust to life now she is free of Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) and his wicked abuse. She has started seeing ghostly versions of Geoff, and has continued to follow specific rules that Geoff implemented when he was abusing her.
One person who has started to help Yasmeen is Elaine (Paula Wilcox). As someone who has been through the same ordeal as Yasmeen, Elaine has been there to offer advice and support her as she gets her life back on track.
Soon, with their friendship growing, Elaine and Yasmeen join forces, as they both prepare themselves to beat their Geoff demons once and for all.
Yasmeen returns to work at Speed Daal and suffers a panic attack. She admits she can’t get Geoff out of her head, so Elaine advises her to start doing things she knows he’d have disapproved of as a kind of therapy.
Elaine offers to help Yasmeen out at Speed Daal, and Yasmeen offers her a week’s trial in return.
Later, as Elaine and Yasmeen take Elaine’s chihuahua, Tinkerbell, for a walk Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) makes derogatory remarks about silly little dogs. When Elaine explains that Tinkerbell is a rescue dog, Evelyn warms to her.
It looks as though Elaine is making herself comfortable in Weatherfield, but will joining forces with Yasmeen to beat their Geoff demons work as well as they hope? Fingers crossed!
