Spoilers: Ian Bartholomew to return as evil Geoff in Corrie

We thought we had seen the last of evil Geoff Metcalfe in Coronation Street when he became chicken food after falling from the roof while pursuing Yasmeen (Shelley King) but Ian Bartholomew is set to reprise his role as the monstrous character for fresh scenes.

Show bosses were keen to emphasise that Yasmeen’s journey and recovery would not end with the death of Geoff and she still has some ways to go to return to some degree of normality and to escape the full hold that this controlling manipulator had over her for so long.

And as Yasmeen still has Geoff in her head, this will manifest into some traumatic scenes where we will see visions of Geoff despite his recent exit from the show.

Producer Iain MacLeod told Metro.co.uk: ‘We are very keen to reflect the real world experiences that people like Yasmeen go through. Escaping your abuser whether that is death, incarceration or flee makes people say ‘you’re free’ but it’s not over.

‘The psychological impacts can last forever and also the practical side of what happened to her – Geoff was embezzling money from her and taking out loans – that will come home to roost and threaten her recovery.

‘Geoff’s shadow will remain over her – we actually will see Geoff again a few times through dramatic devices over the new year. You will see Geoff again but he isn’t back from the dead. It’s a richly psychological place Yasmeen finds herself in – these ordeals go on for a long time.’

However, Iain was keen to get across that Yasmeen’s scenes would also be ones of hope next year as she regains her confidence and strength – and a lot of that comes from fellow survivor Elaine.

He revealed: ‘Elaine will be a ray of light – Paula Wilcox is absolutely fantastic. She is pivotal in Yasmeen’s ongoing recovery – here will be an odd couple, sometimes humorous double act like friendship. So there will be some light stuff along with the heartbreak and psychological drama.’
