The Chase: Shaun Wallace apologises to contestant in brutal quizzing dig

The Chase: Shaun Wallace takes aim at contestant's singing

The Chase viewers saw a new-look episode of the ITV series on Friday night as host Bradley Walsh was back with a socially distanced version of the format. Players Oli, Sophie, Cina and Bob were all hoping to make it through to the Final Chase for the opportunity to take home some big money. But Bob failed to make it past his head-to-head with Shaun shortly after the Chaser had made a light-hearted insult at his quizzing ability, telling him, “I apologise, you quiz like you sing.”

This evening’s show looked slightly different to usual with some new set additions helping to keep the show filming amid social distancing rules.

Bradley was unable to properly interact with the contestants and each player had a screen of glass between them in order to remain apart.

The team got off to a strong start tonight with Oli soon making it through after turning down the high offer.

Sophie was up next and the 22-year-old showed off her skill for quizzing, joining Oli moments later.

Next up was Cina, who decided to stick with the £4,000 she had picked up in the cash-builder when going up against Shaun.

She too successfully got herself back for the Final Chase and it was up to Bob to try and give the team a full-house.

Before Bob had taken to the podium, Shaun had backed the player’s chances of doing well.

After Cina made it through, Shaun told Bradley: “I think the best player’s yet to come”

“How can you tell?” Bradley probed, with Shaun replying: “You can just tell a good quizzer”

Bradley went on to ask Bob if he was a good quizzer, to which the player seemed unsure.

Soon enough, it was Bob’s turn up at the podium.

The player explained to Bradley how he was in a band and Shaun later used the opportunity to make a dig.

However, after securing a fairly respectable £4,000 in his cash-builder, Shaun took aim at his singing ability.

Upon his return, Shaun referred back to his previous compliments towards the player, saying: “Bob, I apologise. You quiz like you sing.”

Bradley laughed at the comment, left unsure about what to say, before moving on with Bob looking unfazed by the joke.

Unfortunately, Bob failed to make it into the Final Chase to join his fellow players.

The trio ended up playing for a healthy £15,000 and got off to a good start in the quickfire round.

But it wasn’t meant to be today and the players left home empty-handed after Shaun caught them with just a few seconds remaining.

The Chaser was delighted to seal victory in today’s programme and was all smiles after his win.

Turning to the players, Shaun concluded: “I found my pawn Sophie, didn’t I? And guess what, it’s just another day at the office.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
