The Prodigy's Firestarter could be number one after Keith Flint's death as fans back campaign

On Monday it was sadly announced that the star had passed away at the age of 49, with his bandmate Liam Hewlett reporting that Keith had taken his own life.

In a bid to honour the star, fans have launched a Facebook campaign to encourage others to download Keith's 1997 hit song Firestarter.

The petition reads: "Let’s make sure the fire continues.

"We need to raise awareness of mental health issues and suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 and that needs to change!

"This is the best way to raise Keith’s profile and bring his plight to the forefront of pop culture and mainstream.

"If you don’t want to spend any money then place the song on repeat in a streaming platform such as Spotify or Deezer then mute it and leave it on. This will also count towards the charts."

The track is currently at number 29 in the viral UK Spotify chart.

The Prodigy cancelled all of their upcoming tour dates in the wake of Keith's death, with Emily Eavis recently revealing that the group were set to play Glastonbury this year.

Tributes have flown in from around the world for Keith, with dance group Faithless recently sharing an extraordinary memory that they have of the artist.

Taking to their Facebook page yesterday, the band – Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo – revealed: "Devastated to hear the news of Keith’s passing.

"Faithless & The Prodigy have shared many of the same stages & crew over the years, and toured together in SA back in the day.

"He was SO loved by so many around the world, and gave of himself with such panache."

They continued: "He also got back on stage & gave it after 100mph bike crash into a wall!! This man was a titan.

"Love & respect to all his friends, family, fans, band & crew. We must look after each other & not be afraid to seek help."

Keith was well known for his love of motorbikes and racing, but this crash had not been reported before.

The Sun previously revealed that the hitmaker had "spiralled into depression" after the breakdown of his marriage with his estranged wife Mayumi Kai.

The pair tied the knot in 2006 and Keith previously said that she had got him through his battle with alcohol and drug addiction.
