This Morning fans were devastated to see Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford bid farewell to their doting viewers as their seven-week long stint as This Morning hosts came to an end.
The beloved TV presenters took up the role at the end of June as replacements for blonde bombshell Holly Willoughby and her co-host Phillip Schofield when they took a break from the show to make the most of their time with their families during the summer months.
The happy couple made sure to leave on a high on Friday morning as the pair had the opportunity to interview the legendary Jackson family, recent Love Island winners Liam Reardon and Millie Court as well as the cast of Rock of Ages throughout their final show.
And after the rave reviews they received throughout their time on the hit daytime show, the married couple made sure to thank the welcoming cast and crew as well as their loyal viewers for their continued support.
The 61-year-old became understandably emotional during their final goodbye as her Irish husband laughed at her sudden outburst of tears.
But determined to do the show proud, Ruth told viewers: “We just wanted to say thank you very much for your company this summer, and it’s great as you’ve heard from lots of you all around the country, people on their holidays on staycations getting in touch, so thank you for all your very lovely comments."
Eamonn added: “Have yourselves a good weekend. Have a good rest of the day. Crew, thank you very much, and thank you everybody for staying with us throughout the summer. Bye bye.”
And their sweet exit wasn’t missed by their loyal legion of fans, who were devastated to see the bubbly couple leave their morning screens once more.
Fans soon took to Twitter to share their disappointment at their sudden exit on This Morning after the pair grew a loving fanbase of viewers throughout their two-month journey on the morning show.
One supporter wrote: “Awwww I'm actually going to miss @EamonnHolmes & @RuthieeL on #ThisMorning. They’ve really grown on me the past few weeks. Thanks for keeping me entertained whilst I'm working from home. Can you adopt me, please?”
Another agreed: “It is very sad that today is Eamonn and Ruth’s last day. I don’t mind Phillip and Holly, but the thought of Alison and Dermot return on a Friday doesn’t please me!!!! In fact, I think I'll give Fridays a miss from now on!!”
A third chimed in with: “@EamonnHolmes @RuthieeL when working alone from home most days … love you both keeping me company !! Best presenters going to miss you both on #ThisMorning countdown till your next spell on it.”
While another quizzed: “#ThisMorning When will @EamonnHolmes and @RuthieeL be returning? Sooner rather than later I hope. They make the show!!!”
The loving pair used to present the ITV daytime show on a Friday morning for more than a decade before they decided to take a step back from reporting, with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary taking over the role.
Alison and Rochelle Humes will be presenting Monday’s episode prior to Phillip and Holly's return to the show after their lavish summer break.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
