Vikings: Amazon Prime release trailer for final season
Vikings season six, part two, arrived in December 2020 and long-standing fans of the historical drama were keen to see how it would end. The final season was full of emotional moments, but one character who did not appear in the finale was Rollo (played by Clive Standen). Fans are wondering what happened to him after he was last seen in France, and Express.co.uk has investigated.
What happened to Rollo in the end?
Vikings has been a popular historical drama series for seven years and one fan-favourite was Rollo.
He was the less-favoured brother of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) and the pair did not see eye to eye.
At one stage, they even fought against each other due to their conflicting opinions on leadership.
Rollo had one of the most dramatic character arcs in the series, as he ended up becoming a member of French royalty.
While the Vikings raided Paris, he was asked to form an allegiance with Emperor Charles II of Frankia (Lothaire Bluteau) and marry his daughter Gisla (Morgane Polanski).

Gisla was disgusted at the thought of marrying a “heathen”, and she tried desperately to stay away from him.
Rollo, on the other hand, was willing to give the unlikely marriage a try, and he even went as far as to learn French so the pair could communicate properly.
Having seen how Rollo was making an effort for her, Gisla eventually warmed to him and their relationship blossomed quickly.
By the fourth season, Rollo found himself torn between his Viking family and his wife, as Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) needed his help.
Bjorn needed to sail through France and Rollo asked his wife if he could go with him which upset Gisela.
He eventually returned, but his wife was far from happy with him, and she resented him for leaving her.
This was the last fans saw of Rollo, and he was only mentioned in passing in the following season when he sent troops to help Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen).
Fans were hoping to see him in the final episodes, with one saying on Twitter: “I wish Rollo and Frankia were mentioned this season, to find out what happened to him and how he died. He was an important character too, no matter if we hated or loved him. #Vikings.”
Some are hoping his storyline is wrapped up in the upcoming spin-off series, Vikings Valhalla, with one saying: “@CliveStanden Why didn’t Rollo appear in season six and will he make a cameo in Vikings Valhalla?”
Rollo’s character was based on a real Viking of the same name, who indeed went on to become the first ruler of Normandy in France.
Like in the series, he swore allegiance to King Charles, and he continued to reign in Normandy until around 928.

He was known to have raided other areas to expand his territory, and he is believed to have died in 930, aged 70.
Fans sadly came to the conclusion as his storyline no longer fitted alongside any of the other characters, he was left out of the final season.
Ahead of the season six part B release, one fan said on Reddit: “I do not think he is dead but I think his story is done and we are not going to see him anymore.
“He doesn’t really fit anywhere in the current story so unless they find a way to bring him back for season six, I do not think we will see him again.”
There is no knowing whether he will feature in any spin-off, and fans continued to comment on social media about his absence from the original series.
One said on Twitter: “Started part one of the final season of #Vikings and I’m not ready to say goodbye to all these characters. I still miss Ragnar and Rollo.”
Another said: “Finished the final season of @HistoryVikings. Not gonna lie I was hoping Ragnar was the “crazy man”. And for a Rollo appearance. #vikings.”
He may have been one of the antagonists for much of the series, but viewers fell in love with his strength and power.
One final viewer said: “That’s it! I’m done! And now? The end… hmmmmm… There were a few tears… and Rollo was very missed!”
Actor Standen is on Instagram and on the release day of the final episodes, he posted a photo of his character, saying: “We’ve come a long way together, you and I. Who’s watching the beginning of the end tomorrow?”
Since leaving the series, he went on to star in the series Taken, Mirage and Council of Dads.
