Virgin River season three will be landing on Netflix soon and fans are keen to see the relationship between Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) develop. They had just accepted their feelings for each other when Jack’s ex-girlfriend Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) announced she was pregnant with his children. Now, fans are keen to know if Mel and Jack will have a baby of their own in the third season.
Was Mel already pregnant in Virgin River?
Virgin River is about to return with its most dramatic season yet, and the trailer has teased many twists and turns.
The series is based on the books of the same name by Robyn Carr, and fans who have read them will know Mel gets pregnant.
They are keen to find out whether Jack and Mel will have a baby together, following her complicated history with pregnancy.
In the trailer, the Virgin River residents begin asking Mel if she is ready to take the next step with Jack.
She asks Jack if he is ready to have a baby, but Jack does not seem too keen on the idea.
She said: “How would you feel about me having a baby?” Then she is seen with a concerned expression.
She and Jack seem to fall out over the topic, and the argument becomes known to the wider community.
Jack then says: “I can’t be the person that stands in the way of you becoming a mother.”
Mel says Jack does not listen to what she wants, and Jack responds by saying: “I know what you want, I don’t know if I can give it to you.”
Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss whether Mel was already pregnant in the trailer, and she was not ready to face Jack with the news.
One said: “I think maybe Mel got pregnant last season. The trailer for season 3 includes one scene from season 2 where Jack and Mel slept together for the first time and the dialogue was Jack saying something like ‘I can’t be the person that stands in the way of you becoming a mother.’
“I don’t see why else they would include that scene. It would align with the books if that was the case.” [Sic]
Another responded in agreement, saying: “I think the same, that scene from Season 2 in the Season 3 trailer wasn’t just because, there’s something there.” [Sic]
A third fan added: “That would be an interesting situation they take from the books. I kind of wish they don’t introduce it so soon in the show.
“But it wouldn’t be the end of the world…like if Jack really is the father of Charmaine’s twins.”
However, there are fans who believe Mel will not have a baby in the upcoming season.
Another suggested: “I don’t suspect Mel will be pregnant in S3. I think they will get engaged in S3, married and pregnant in S4.
“The clip of Mel crying in the bathroom is an overwhelming amount of fear, sadness, anxiety, etc from almost losing Jack tragically, like her husband.” [Sic]
In the trailer, there is one scene of Mel holding her hand up to her face in shock whilst in the bathroom.
Some fans have suggested this resembles Mel finding out some baby news.
There are others who have suggested Mel will not get pregnant at all, following her history.
One said: “Technically she’s not supposed to get pregnant, it’s too much of a happy ending for this show to pull off.
“It would just be too convenient and lazy. I can see her adopting or if she is to get pregnant again, it would have to be through en vitro stuff.”
There are those who believe Mel and Jack will get their happy ending and have a child together.
However, how they come to have a child is yet to be explored in the third season.
Virgin River season 3 airs on Netflix on July 9.
