It was shocking to see Thomas Ravenel back on Southern Charm during the Season 7 premiere, which aired on Oct. 29, 2020. Thomas hasn’t been on the show since 2018, when he exited amidst allegations of sexual assault. During the episode, his ex Kathryn Dennis and their two kids stayed at Thomas’ house temporarily while her place was being renovated.
On the Nov. 12, 2020 episode, Kathryn learned Thomas was expecting his third child with another woman, while Kathryn was still living in his home and admittedly hoped they would get back together. A few days after the episode aired, Thomas tweeted (and eventually deleted) remarks bashing Southern Charm, according to Us Weekly. Thomas posted, “Is the show THAT BORING WITHOUT ME. Please move on [and] leave me the hell alone. I’m sorry your cast is that weak. I gone. Live with it!!”
In October 2020, Thomas’ former co-star Shep Rose reacted to his surprising cameo during an interview with Us Weekly. He remarked, “For as much shouting and hollering negatively about the show… that just pisses me off, honestly.” Shep insisted that “anything bad that might’ve happened with” Thomas is his own fault, not the show’s. Additionally, Shep said Thomas “really enjoyed it when he was on it. I mean, let’s be real honest here. He loved whatever fame and notoriety.”
It seems like fame might be a double-edged sword for Thomas. He’s bashed Southern Charm many times, yet he returned to film a scene.
Thomas Ravenel described people connected to 'Southern Charm' as 'losers,' 'liars,' and 'trash'
When Cameran Eubanks left Southern Charm in 2020, Thomas Ravenel tweeted, “Cameran and Patricia [Altschul] are terrible. Anyone who falls for Bravo editing BS has a very small brain.” He told a fan, “I’m doing perfectly fine now that liars and losers/trash that are connected to Southern Charm are unconnected to me now. Funny thing is that their appearance on this show is the proudest achievement on their resume. It’s my lowest.”
Thomas slammed the show in 2018 after his exit, writing (and once again deleting), “I’m not doing the show anymore. In the contract they have the right to fictionalize your story. They took advantage of me. I decided I’ve got too much to lose and informed them I’m not coming back” (via Page Six).
“The worst mistake of my life was agreeing to be the star of the reality TV show ‘Southern Charm,” Thomas said, per court documents obtained by The Blast in 2019. The disgraced reality TV alum claimed, “It amplified my past notoriety, showcased my wealth I accumulated through decades of hard work, and made me a walking target for men and women eager to get in front of the camera.” Additionally, he said it embarrassed his family. Thomas even asked a judge to prohibit Southern Charm from discussing him in storylines.
That move and Thomas’ other defamatory remarks just add to the confusion surrounding his recent appearance, which is just so Thomas.
