The family of a Kenosha protester shot dead by teen gunman Kyle Rittenhouse, and a young man injured by the suspect, announced Sunday that they will sue the Wisconsin city for a total of $20 million, according to a report.
Wounded marcher Gaige Grosskreutz and the kin of the late Anthony Huber filed notices of claim — an announcement of an intent to file a lawsuit — over the Aug. 25 bloodshed, WTMJ-TV reported.
The notice also names Kenosha County, the county sheriff and employees of both the sheriff’s office and the city police department.
Grosskreutz was shot in the arm by Rittenhouse during unrest in the city and suffered “significant permanent physical damage,” the station reported.
Huber’s mother, Karen Bloom, claims in her notice that local authorities were negligent in failing to protect her son.
Each claim seeks $10 million in damages, KTMJ said.
A third protester, Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, was also shot and killed by Rittenhouse, but his family has not announced an intent to sue over his death.
Rittenhouse, 17, was in Kenosha with militia groups seeking to protect local business from looters amid protests over the police shooting of Jacob Blake two days earlier.
Blake was shot seven times in the back by police during a domestic disturbance.
Rittenhouse’s caught-on-video shootings came after protesters converged on him, with the teen first killing Rosenbaum.
He’s seen running from the scene, then shooting Grosskreutz and Huber when they tried to stop him from fleeing — and putting his hands up as he approached police, only to have the cops drive past him.
The teenager fled the city after the shootings and was arrested the next day in his home in Illinois.
He faces weapons and murder charges in the case and is free on $2 million bail while awaiting trial.
Rittenhouse’s lawyers have claimed that the teen, who was armed with a semiautomatic rifle, fired in self-defense when protesters converged on him.
