THE prime suspect in the murder of one of Britain's worst paedophiles is a sex beast who once boasted: "I love raping women."
Paul Fitzgerald, 29, was jailed indefinitely in 2009 for attacking a female dog-walker – but last night he was at the centre of a police probe after monster Richard Huckle, 33, was found stabbed to death in his jail cell.
It came after he had been detained aged just 15 for a serious sexual assault on a young girl.
Fitzgerald, who was born in Northern Ireland, was being held in segregation last night away from other inmates as the police investigation got underway.
Sources said Huckle – serving 22 life terms for abusing up to 200 children abroad – was found slumped by prison officers at top security Full Sutton prison, East Yorks, on Sunday.
A home-made blade is thought to have been the murder weapon.
A source revealed: "There was blood everywhere.
"The air ambulance was called in but by then it was too late. It was a targeted attack – there was no chance of saving him."
Ex-English teacher Huckle was jailed at the Old Bailey in June 2016 for a minimum of 25 years.
The court heard the child sex beast had admitted 71 counts of sex abuse against up to 200 children across Malaysia over nine years.
One was just six-months-old.
Huckle, a former member of a baptist church in Ashford, England, used his religion as a "stepping stone" for grooming kids in a Christian community.
After moving to Malaysia aged 19 on a gap year, he began abusing children.
He bragged online of his abuse, awarding himself "Paedo Points" for varying grades of assaults on kids – and even wrote a book for Western perverts living in Asia.
Huckle raised money on the encrypted version of the internet known as the dark web.
But he was finally caught 11 years on after Aussie cops tracking another paedophile online saw Huckle was a prolific abuser.
They traced him and he was nicked by the National Crime Agency as he flew into Gatwick to see his family for Christmas.
Police found 20,253 sick images on hard drives, many showing him abusing kids.
The court heard he wanted to create a "paedo Wiki guide".
In one sickening note, Huckle wrote: "I'd hit the jackpot, a 3yo girl as loyal to me as my dog and no one seemed to care."
A thousand deaths is too good for you
Sentencing Huckle, Judge Peter Rook QC told him: "You targeted and groomed children and their families in a poor community, no doubt seeking to impress them with your relative wealth as a Westerner."
As he was taken down to the cells, a friend of one of his victims yelled: "A thousand deaths is too good for you."
Evil Huckle refused to hand over his computer passwords which would have given cops access to hidden files.
His sister-in-law said: "None of his family will speak about him. None of us ever want to see Richard again."
Fitzgerald was given an indeterminate sentence in February 2009 for assault with intent to commit a sexual offence, possession of an offensive weapon and breaching a sexual offences prevention order.
Leeds Crown Court heard cops had found an entry in his diary which read: "I love raping women."
Elsewhere he wrote about paedophile fantasies and added: "Even if I was going to reoffend they couldn't stop me."
A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: "We were called shortly after 12.30pm reporting that a man had died at the prison.
"Humberside Police are working closely with the Prison Service to investigate the death of an inmate and at this time we are treating the death as suspicious."
A Prison Service spokesman would not comment further given the ongoing police probe.
