The world’s most southerly Post Office needs new employees who must be good at cleaning penguin poo & emptying toilets – The Sun

THE world’s most southerly Post Office needs new employees — who must be good at cleaning penguin poo, not showering for two weeks and emptying toilets.

Personal emails “are at a minimum”, satellite phone calls are expensive and smoking is “categorically prohibited”.

Assistants at Port Lockroy on Goudier Island — the size of a primary school playing field and part of the British Antarctica Territory — are paid £1,250 a month between November and March.

The United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust is now looking to recruit the annual team for the “austral summer” later this year.

Temperatures are between minus 5C and plus 10C but “wind-chill will make it feel colder”.

The four-strong outfit runs a museum, shop and Post Office, with 18,000 ship passengers visiting every season.

The resident 2,000 gentoo penguins also have to be monitored.

Part of the job involves cleaning their poo from the path.

It takes two weeks for workers to get there.

Staff last year hand-franked 50,000 postcards and letters to be sent to 100-plus countries from the Penguin Post Office.

Applications must be in by March 9.
