Trump pays respect to George H.W. Bush at Capitol Rotunda

President Trump showed up to pay respects to late President George H.W. Bush in the Capitol Rotunda on Monday night.

The president entered the building with first Lady Melania Trump, who was wearing a cape, and stood in front of the elder Bush’s casket as he lay in state.

The first lady placed her hand on her heart and the president saluted Bush, a former Navy pilot.

Trump had been critical of the 41st president before his death, once mocking Bush’s iconic phrase a “Thousand Points of Light.”

“We’re putting America first. And by the way, you know all the rhetoric you see, the Thousand Points of Light,” Trump said during at a rally in July.

“What the hell was that by the way? Thousands Points of Light. What did that mean? Does anyone know?”

Jenna Bush Hager, the former president’s granddaughter, later explained that a “point of light was a vision about serving others, one that lit up our country, one I hope our country hasn’t lost.”
