Video shows alleged dognapping of Golden Retriever in Kelowna

Police have released surveillance video showing the alleged theft of an 18-month-old Golden Retriever on Saturday night.

Just after 7:30 p.m., the dog, Atlas, was taken from a fenced-in yard in the 2400 block of Taylor Crescent in Kelowna’s Mission area, according to RCMP.

“The female suspect seemingly opened a gate to the property and called the Golden Retriever out of the yard,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a news release. “The dog named Atlas then followed the woman, who ran on foot towards Birch Avenue.”

Police said the woman has been described as Caucasian with blonde hair. She was wearing a dark-coloured jacket and a white tuque and appeared to be in a white SUV.

“At this time, there are some indications that the theft may have been targeted. However, police will continue to treat the incident as random until that can be confirmed,” O’Donaghey said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
