But upon closer inspection he realised the busy mum of four was trying to cross the road, and pulled over to let her pass safely.

He said: ‘At first I thought it was a grocery bag as I was approaching it.

‘I stopped to see what it was and noticed movement then realised what it was when I looked at it through my camera.

‘The best bit was watching the baby riding on her tail.

‘When she started heading across the parkway road it couldn’t find a spot on her back so it climbed on her tail and rode across.’

The Virginia Opossum is the only marsupial native to North America.

However, they are not native to the western United States and originally lived only in the southeastern United States and Central America.

Virginia Opossums were introduced to the West in 1890.
