Every few weeks, there is a new makeup technique trending on TikTok. The one that has taken over the app most recently? Eye sculpting.
The latest version of the trend has been popularized by user @lenkalul, and her video showcasing the technique now stands at three million views and counting. But what exactly is eye sculpting? Keep reading to find out.
“Eye sculpting is the process of shaping the eyes using foundational highlighting and sculpting techniques,” professional makeup artist and content creator Ehlie Luna tells POPSUGAR. “Currently, the most popular way to use this technique on TikTok aims to achieve a lifted eye look.”
While this trend has been around before, social media has contributed to its popularity today. “Every now and then, TikTok grabs onto a classic technique and gives it a new name,” Luna says. “I love seeing all the different ways creators achieve these timeless results.”
If you want to try the technique at home, Luna has some tips. “The first thing to consider is what shape you are going for,” she says. “Next you want to grab your eye base and monochromatic or neutral eyeshadows — typically that combination involves a nude shadow (relative to your skin tone), a medium brown, and a darker brown.”
To achieve the lifted eye look, first, take the darker shadow and apply it to your crease, blending it beyond the natural end of your lashes. Do the same on your bottom lash line, blending the elongated line out and up to run parallel to the shadow you used on top. Then, place the nude eyeshadow between the two lines and close to the inner corner of your eye.
Some of Luna’s favorite products to achieve this technique are the Kevyn Aucoin Emphasize Eye Design Palette ($28, originally $46) in the shade Focus, The Chocolates Eyeshadow Palette by Juvia’s Place ($15), the MAC Cosmetics Semi-Sweet Times Nine ($33), and Danessa Myricks Beauty Colorfix Mattes ($18 each).
If you want to try out this technique and love to experiment with your makeup, you can always add pops of color to your version of the look. As always, there are no rules with makeup, so the most important part of trying this trend is to have fun. See a few of the tutorials from TikTok ahead.
