Last week, we looked at the rise of the face-framing fringe cut, which fits in nicely with a trend predicted to be everywhere next season: the sachel haircut.
Both shaggy and heavily-layered, you could easily build a face-framing fringe into a sachel.
So, what exactly is it?
BaByliss Ambassador and stylist, Syd Hayes, says it’s a merging of the ‘shag’ haircut and the ‘Rachel’ to create the sachel (get it?).
The shag cut is a messy, rock’n’roll, just got-out-of-bed cut that became on trend again off the back of lockdown and the turn towards low maintenance styles – all it needs is choppy layers.
Meanwhile, the Rachel was trending back in the heyday of the hit TV show Friends, when Jennifer Anniston had the signature chop – a sleek, bouncy, short-layered do.
Volume was key, as were face-framing pieces, but it’s much more ‘put together’ than the shag.
The sachel is the best of both worlds.
Syd describes it as: ‘Shattered layers and soft wispy ends.
‘It feels flattering and beautiful.’
He believes hair trends are ‘evolving’ and cites celebrities like Miley Cyrus for being ‘one step ahead’, as she’s currently got the look.
It flatters the face as ‘the wispy sliced out layers create movement from your jaw line to your collarbone’.
‘A little movement can be great as it enhances natural texture,’ he adds.
Most people can carry it off well, though those with straight to wavy hair will find it easier to style.
Syd advises: ‘Ask your hairdresser to keep things choppy – razors are an incredible tool to create this type of haircut.
‘Get yourself the BaByliss 9000 Cordless Straightener and use a glide and bend motion around the front of your hair for the perfect sachel.’
