Aaron Carter was found dead at his home in Lancaster, California, on Saturday aged just 34. The singer’s tragic and untimely death sparked an outpouring of grief in Hollywood, with his ex-girlfriend Hilary Duff paying a touching tribute to him.

The Lizzie McGuire actress took to Instagram to reflect upon Aaron’s “charm” and the “deep love” she had for him.

She shared a blank picture on the social media platform featuring the message, which was accompanied by a red love heart.

The post read: “For Aaron — I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world.

“You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent … boy did my teenage self-love you deeply.

“Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy,” Hilary concluded.

Hilary and Aaron started dating in 2001, a year during which Aaron appeared in an episode of Hilary’s Disney Channel series, Lizzie McGuire.

The pair finally parted ways in 2003 after a two-year on-again, off-again relationship.

Since the news of Aaron’s death, plenty of fans have taken to social media to pay homage to the young star.

Songwriter Diane Warren tweeted: “Fame at a young age is often more a curse than a blessing and Surviving it is not easy. RIP Aaron Carter.”

User @PrettyCorrupt1 shared photos of Aaron alongside Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff along with the caption: “The way this boy changed 2000s history. RIP Aaron Carter.”

And Carrie Jordan penned: “RIP Aaron Carter. You changed pop culture forever.”

TMZ reported yesterday that law enforcement sources said: “Homicide detectives have been dispatched to the scene, but we have no information or evidence of foul play.

A source also confirmed the sad news to The Hollywood Reporter.

His representatives said: “Right now it’s a really bad time, we’re trying to figure out what happened and what the cause of it was.

“We’re just as upset as everyone and hope that fans can give thoughts and prayers to his family.”

Aaron rose to fame in the late 1990s after releasing his self-titled debut album aged nine.

The 1997 album sold more than one million copies worldwide and his second album, Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) sold three million copies in the United States when it was released in 2000.

Aaron then began making guest appearances on Nickelodeon and starred in an episode of Disney’s popular series, Lizzie McGuire.

The star also performed as the opening act in several concerts for the Backstreet Boys. He is the younger brother of band member Nick Carter.
