Alex Jones and Steve Jones dated between 1999 and 2002.
However, the reason for their split has now reportedly emerged after The One Show presenter appeared on Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett’s Dish podcast.
The 46-year-old claimed in the upcoming interview obtained by the MailOnline that her ex, also 46, told a lie about her so he could interview Angelina Jolie.
The BBC regular said the supposed betrayal led to their break-up on live television.
At the time, Alex was working as an entertainment correspondent for Channel 4’s Rise.
However, when she was asked if she would like to interview the Mr and Mrs Smith actress, Steve is claimed to have told organisers she was unwell.
Alex claims she was actually out shopping when she missed the all-important call.
“Normally they would call in the morning and ask to come and do an interview or a junket,” she is reported to have stated.
“I was staying in his flat at the time when I was working in London and he picked up the landline and said, ‘Al’s not here. She’s not feeling well, she’s had to go back to Cardiff’, I was in Topshop.

“So he did the interview,” Alex went on to claim.
Express.co.uk has contacted a spokesperson for Steve Jones for comment.
The small screen favourite has shared the story previously but has never named Steve reportedly until now.
She claims they went their separate ways because of what happened and “split up live on telly”.
Alex first regaled what happened while appearing on the Thanks A Million podcast with Angela Scanlon.
She told the host: “I got back to the flat and was like, ‘Where is he?’ Hours went past, nobody answering their phones and in the end thought, ‘Right I’m going to drive back to Cardiff, because I don’t know where you are, you’ve probably gone to the pub.’
“And then the production company called, and they were like, we’ve got a bit of a situation.
“Tomorrow morning, your boyfriend is going to the premiere with Angelina Jolie and it it would be really funny if you came on the line, live on the show and surprised him and said that you know exactly what he’s been up to.”
Alex accepted this offer.
Steve’s Angelina interview is said to have led to him securing a presenting role on T4 in 2003.
The Welsh beauty is now married to an insurance broker, Charlie Thomson, after tying the knot in 2015.
The couple shares three children.
