Amanda Abbington shuts down feud rumours with Gio and says they ‘laugh a lot’
Amanda Abbington experienced a drop towards the end of last week’s performance which went totally unnoticed by Strictly Come Dancing judges, according to pro Brendan Cole.
The 47-year-old New Zealand-born ballroom star had a very candid chat with Sky Bingo about exactly where he thinks the actress went wrong.
“She flagged towards the end, and the judges didn’t pick that up, which I found interesting,” he mused of the Sherlock and Mr Selfridge actress.
“That was one of the key things about her number, it started powerfully, she was amazing [and] she looked fantastic. Then suddenly, it fell off towards the end.”
However, Brendan believes the judges may have been oblivious as they were so blown over by the “fantastic lifts” – and he acknowledges that she and Giovanni Pernice managed “one or two” impressive ones.

However, he also insisted that, as a pro dancer himself, lifts “never excite” him, as he doesn’t consider them particularly complex or tricky to achieve.
“It’s a weird look – it’s not particularly elegant. It’s not the kind of thing I’d do,” he exclaimed.
“[However, Amanda and Giovanni] got their cheeky laugh and they got there. They got their moment… I do think she did a great number.”
Although Brendan was critical of the pair, he has also spoken out on the importance of not going too far with criticism, citing “mental health” fears for the contestants.

The star, who completed 15 series as a professional on the show, stated: “Even mentally strong people who really don’t take [criticism] to heart, I’ve seen them crumble on the show because you put your heart and soul into something.”
He advised against judges being “soft” and “gentle”, but also advised caution about the “power” of words.
His comments were driven by Les Dennis’ performance with Nancy Xu last week, which saw him become the first contestant to leave the series.
Scoring a measly 16 points on the leaderboard and then failing in the dance-off against Nikita Kanda, it had been an emotional moment for Les.
He also learnt on the same day as the announcement he’d been eliminated that his acting pal and former co-star Jake Abraham – famed for his Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels performance – had died of cancer aged just 56.
“The judges rip into you and that’s soul-destroying,” Brendan sympathised.
