Amanda Bynes ‘placed on psychiatric hold after being found roaming around streets naked’

Actress Amanda Bynes has been "placed on psychiatric hold after being found roaming around streets naked," it has been reported.

The 36 year old was one of the most successful young actresses in the 90s and noughties, known for her roles in rom coms such as She's the Man, alongside Channing Tatum.

US publication TMZ reports that Amanda was seen walking in Downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of Sunday morning as she waved down a passing car and told the driver that she was coming down from a psychotic episode, before Amanda herself then called 911.

After she was taken to a local police station, TMZ's law enforcement sources claim a mental health team determined she needed to be placed on a 5150 psych hold.

According to The Treatment Specialist, a 5150 (pronounced fifty-one-fifty) is a legal action from the CA Welfare and Institutions Code. It allows a qualified officer or clinician to confine someone against their will for 72 hours. During this time, the person will be fully assessed for their mental health status. The idea is to obtain help for the person during the hold, and after they are released.

It's thought that Amanda is still currently in hospital, and thankfully wasn't hurt during the ordeal.

OK! has contacted Amanda's representatives for comment.

Just less than a year ago, Amanda's nine year conservatorship finally came to an end, after she was placed on it in 2013 following a series of manic episodes and a hospitalisation.

The actress, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, has displayed erratic behaviour in the last few years, including setting her neighbour's driveway on fire, almost engulfing their dog in flames.

In the conservatorship, Amanda's mother was placed in charge of her estate and personal affairs, however it was dissolved in 2022, after Amanda filed a petition last month, with support from her mother and psychiatrist.

When the conservatorship officially ended, Amanda’s attorney, David A Esquibias, told Variety: “I’m excited for her. She is excited".

He continued: “We’re all excited and we’re all anxiously looking forward to Amanda living a life as a private and normal citizen.”

Amanda was due to attend 90s Con in Connecticut this weekend, but cancelled last minute, citing a mystery "illness".

She was supposed to appear alongside the likes of Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli and Lori Beth Denberg at the reunion, which would have marked her first appearance in public since her conservatorship ended in March 2022.

The actress looks very different from her old self when she appeared in movies such as She's the Man and Easy A, having got multiple face tattoos and piercings.
