Brian May performs at We Will Rock You musical revival
Amanda Holden rushed to send her love to Brian May after he told fans he’d suffered “one of the saddest days” of his life.
Phil Webb, who had been the 76-year-old rocker’s “dedicated driver” for more than 30 years, died of a heart attack last week, and Brian posted a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram.
Among his 3.2 million followers were a string of celebrities, and Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden was one of those who stepped in to comfort him.
“Bless Phil… so sad to hear this. Sending love,” she wrote in the comments section.
Amanda’s path has crossed with Brian a number of times over the years, and in one amusing public exchange, she famously urged the Queen guitarist to buy a “diamond” to mark the 15th anniversary of his marriage.

Ex-EastEnders actress Anita Dobson has been together with Brian for almost 40 years and married for almost 23 years, which was already an impressive 15 by the time she appeared on This Morning back in 2015.
Sitting beside Phillip Schofield on the sofa as Anita dished on the length of the marriage, Amanda exclaimed incredulously: “I think that’s worth a diamond!”
Anita jokingly thanked the host for getting the hint across, before going on to discuss her husband’s “shock” about her appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011.
“I was like a child in a toy shop. I loved every second of it,” she exclaimed.

Meanwhile, back on Instagram, Brian shared the trauma he felt at learning of the recent death of his driver.
Penning his tribute earlier this week, he wrote: “Phil, my dedicated driver for over 30 years was my family’s dearest friend and protector and the kindest and most decent man I have ever had the pleasure to meet.
“We are all devastated and join with Phil’s wife and son in grieving for the last man on Earth to deserve this much too early passing away.
“Bless you dear Phil – we all love you. We’re proud of the life you led, and forever grateful for everything you gave us – more than any words could ever describe. Bri.”
Besides Amanda, various others responded to offer their condolences, including the drummer of The Darkness, Rufus Taylor, who could scarcely believe the sad news.
“What??!! Just spoke to him a couple of days ago! This is awful news!” he exclaimed.
Former X Factor star Talia Dean chimed in: “Utterly Devastated. We loved you Phil. I can’t believe it. So sorry for your loss. Sending love to his family.”
Bassist Neil Fairclough, who shared the stage with Queen and Adam Lambert in 2022 and 2023 on tour, added: “So sad…what an absolute gem of a man…always on top form…and hilarious to boot…he welcomed me so warmly all those years ago.”
