Former SAS: Who Dares Wins star Ant Middleton, 41, found himself at the centre of scrutiny after he took to Twitter ealreir today to voice his opinion on the upcoming funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The former soldier claimed “every Brit should be obligated to watch the Queen’s funeral” on Monday, including children.
In view of his 326,100 followers, Ant shared a video uploaded by Nigel Farage of the Queen’s coffin being taken to Westminster Hall in a procession from Buckingham Palace this afternoon.
Nigel captioned the clip: “Today is as solemn as anything you could ever see.”
Ant added in his repost: “Every Brit in the UK (children included) should be obligated to watch the Queens funeral as it will forever be a huge part of British history and further education!
“As sad as Queen Elizabeth II passing is, it has really united the people which I thought was an impossible task.”
However, not everyone seemed to agree, with some online users replying to Ant in disagreement.
Markbrown1986 said: “Obligated? Why? Think you’ll have a hard job forcing the working class and proper people to agree to that.”
Ant responded: “We’ve been forced to do worst & it worked with ease!
“They would have absolutely no trouble in doing it again!”
He continued: “I think it would be a marvellous act of respect, isn’t that what we now pride ourselves on?
“Doing things we don’t agree with out of respect & thinking of others?”
93rdmin typed: “This is why Channel 4 got rid of you. You were a liability. Triggered by everything.
“Some people will watch it and some won’t.
“Stop being a snowflake and get the support you need.”
But some other Twitter users were quick to side with Ant, supporting his views on the late Monarch.
DavidJIPrice stated: “Agreed, it has cemented the nation in a way I didn’t think possible.
“No country can compete with our ceremony and pageantry. It makes me proud to be British.”
Ant replied: “Agreed! It has definitely made us focus on what’s important and what being British is all about!
“The coming together of the people and beaming a dazzling light back on our incredible heritage and culture!
“Proud how the country has responded and united!”
JustLucyJean remarked: “100% agree. We owe it to the greatest female leader in the world, our strength, our constant, our nations grandmother.”
The Queen’s funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey at 11am on Monday, September 19.
