Friends ofDame Barbara Windsor ’s widower Scott Mitchell “couldn’t be happier” after seeing him find love with his “absolutely lovely” new partner Tanya Franks.
Dame Barbara passed away in December 2020 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014. And earlier this yearit was reported that Scott had found love again with actress Tanya. Following the reports, Scottconfirmed the news earlier this month during an appearance on the This Morning sofa.
And now, make-up artist to the stars Gary Cockerill and his husband Phill Turner have spoken to OK! about their happiness at seeing Scott enter a new relationship followingthe death of Dame Barbara back in December 2020.
When asked if they kept up with the star, Phill said: “We tried to do a Sunday lunch with him the other week, but his new partner Tanya Franks is touring with Calendar Girls and he wanted to be there for her. But I’m sure we’ll reschedule.”
He added: “We couldn’t be happier for him.”
Gary meanwhile said that Tanya was “absolutely lovely” and took the time to gush over Scott, who set up the Babs’ Army fundraising team following the death of his late wife three years ago.
“Barbara was a massive part of our lives for 25 years. We loved her to bits and it was so sad when she passed, but Scott was so brilliant with her. He looked after her until the very end. He really is a special man. Of course he wanted to find happiness again – and Tanya is a really lovely lady,” he said.
In recent years, Scott has done lots of fundraising as part of his Babs’ Army team – and it was thanks to his charity work that he met Tanya.
Tthe pair, as well as a number of other EastEnders stars, ran the recent London Marathon in order to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“We met the first year that we did the marathon,” Scott told hosts Dermot O'Leary and Holly Willoughby while on the This Morning sofa.
“It's a very funny thing. I could not have picked two ladies who are more opposite, they are the polar opposites when it comes to talking about their personal life.”
Scott continued: “Tanya is an incredible lady, but she believes that her personal relationships are not something that she wishes to discuss. I respect that.”
