Dianne Buswell’s dad wishes her luck for the show
Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne Buswell’s dad Mark is unable to make the journey over from Australia to watch his daughter perform as he was recently diagnosed with cancer and this month began his first round of chemotherapy. The tearful 34-year-old has now shared video footage of a personal message he’s made for her despite the distance between them.
Mark wished her and EastEnders star dance partner Bobby Brazier the best of luck for tonight’s show, urging: “Just try your best, and I know you will, and enjoy it! Love, Mum and Dad.” Dianne emotionally told her 979,000 followers: “Woke up to this [video. Mark’s upped his msg game this week and done a little recording!
“This was the week my parents were going to be in the audience,” she revealed sadly. Then she lightened the mood with a joke, quipping: “However, dad says it’s a good thing he’s not because back in the day my dad’s nickname was Patrick Swayze as he looked so similar to him and dad didn’t want the attention off Bobby!”
“Love ya Dad. I’m going to try my very best as always in my concert tonight! Hopefully, it’s enough to make it to the semifinal.” Dianne was inundated with support in the comments section from fellow pros including Vito Coppola, who has been predicted as this year’s overall winner with Ellie Leach, plus Nancy Xu and Katya Jones.
Strictly 2022 finalist Helen Skelton sent heart-eye emojis, while Fleur East exclaimed: “You go and smash that concert! Ha ha love it! What a sweet man xx.” Meanwhile, one of Dianne’s fans playfully commented that she immediately saw the resemblance between her father and Patrick Swayze, writing: “Wow!! I have ALWAYS thought your dad looked like [him]!”

@fanny_lane52 added: “Adore your Dad and his relationship with you. Keeping everything crossed for you both tonight. You always make him proud never doubt that x.”
Dianne first shared news of her father’s health struggles back in October, revealing that she would be travelling home to Australia for Christmas instead of her parents coming to the UK and seeing her on the Strictly stage during the same trip.
The heart-broken dancing pro then divulged that he had cancer, before sharing a photo of him in his hospital bed awaiting a gruelling session of chemo earlier this month.
“I’m so proud of you dad. First round of chemotherapy today! I wish I could be there to hold your hand and support you in person but I do know that I’m making you so proud over here in my concert every week!” Dianne shared via Instagram.

“The Australian nurses and [doctors] are now very aware of Strictly Come Dancing as my dad won’t stop talking about it,” she continued, before affectionately urging: “You can do this daddy xxx. Go Mark!”
Though Dianne could have bowed out of the competition to be with him, she instead wanted to make him happy with her achievements, knowing he’d be watching with delight.
“The one thing he really wants is for me to keep going and to keep dancing my little heart out and doing what I love because that makes him the absolute proudest!” she explained.
Dianne will be taking to the stage with Bobby and battling it out to get her hands on the Glitterball trophy tonight at 19.25 on BBC One.
