Shirley Ballas admits to previously being “pushy” about marriage to boyfriend Danny Taylor before calling off their engagement plans.
Earlier this year the Strictly Come Dancing judge announced that she wasn’t in a “position” to get married and revealed she and her 50-year-old partner had a “good enough relationship” without saying ‘I do’.
In a new interview, the 63-year-old has gotten candid regarding marriage and has discussed how it felt to put a stopper in her and Danny’s engagement ideas.
“I would have married him then, but now, with my life the way it is, I think we’re both happy with our situation,” Shirley told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine. “Marriage isn’t a necessity.”
The author went on to reveal: “I was a bit more pushy, and when it didn’t happen, I thought: ‘He’s busy, I’m busy.’”

Despite temporarily silencing wedding bells, Shirley believes that the pair can still “enjoy” time together as they have “no pressure” on any further commitments.
“It works for us,” she added.
Shirley, who was first married to dancer Sammy Stopford between 1980 and 1984, and then to Corky Ballas between 1985 to 2007, has been dating actor Danny since January 2019.
The pair met whilst rehearsing for Jack and the Beanstalk’s Christmas 2018 run at the Liverpool Empire, and reportedly FaceTime on a daily basis.

Speaking about their hectic lifestyles, the dancer recently told Closer: “If for one inkling you think something is wrong, you’re probably right. Danny stays fairly busy and I check in every day.
“You can tell there’s that love and warmth. It is what it is today, and no one’s promised tomorrow. We learn from the past and keep moving.”
Regarding the pair’s 13-year age gap, Shirley believes they both bring “something great” to their relationship.
“I’m 63, babe, I have a great body. I put some people to shame! We both bring something great to the table.
“Life isn’t always about sex. You have to have somebody that’s got intelligence.”
The Sun reported the pair are next due to meet up when Strictly Come Dancing takes over the Blackpool Tower Ballroom for its annual broadcast on Saturday, November 18.
