Blondie’s Debbie Harry wasn’t offended by David Bowie flashing penis

Kate Garraway is stunned at Debbie Harry’s looks

Debbie Harry found fame as the lead singer of Blondie, a band which pioneered the American new wave and punk scene of the mid-late 70s, opened up about her longstanding career as talk turned to the legend David Bowie. The groundbreaking late singer, who is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, also became a worldwide sensation in the 1970s.

In the UK alone, he scored 11 number one albums (so far), and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

David, who died at the age of 69, went on to sell a staggering 100 million records worldwide and was known for his near-constant reinvention as well as visual projects.

The 77-year-old admitted she thought it bizarre if anyone was “outraged” by the moment the late singer flashed his manhood after a drug-fuelled night.

Speaking in an interview, Debbie claimed it was all a part of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle for musicians of the decade.

“Outraged? Absolutely not. I was totally captivated. Are you kidding?” she told Saga magazine. “We all adore Bowie and it was just one of those moments. These guys, you know, it’s just rock’n’roll.”

Debbie had previously recounted the night in question when David decided to cheekily let it all hang out.

“One time David and Iggy [Pop] were looking for some blow. Their connection in New York had suddenly died and they were out,” Debbie wrote in her book Face It, extracted by The Sunday Times.

“After they did the blow, David pulled out his c*ck — as if I were the official c*ck checker or something. Since I was in an all-male band, maybe they figured I really was the c*ck-check lady.”

She added: “I guess I was sort of flattered, you know? He’s one of the great men that I admire in the music world, clearly a genius.”

Debbie also opened up about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and Blondie guitarist Chris Stein.

The couple previously dated for 14 years but split in 1989.

The duo are still good friends as he joined the singer on her UK tour last year.

She told Saga: “Fifty years? Disgusting, isn’t it? I would never have guessed it in a million years. But I think Chris and I had a meeting of minds.

“I don’t know if I understood him as well as he understands me. He’s a very generous guy.

“I hope I’ve done as much for Chris as he’s done for me. He’s made my life everything I dreamed it would be.”

In the late 1960s, Debbie started her music career as a backing singer for folk group The Wind in the Willows.

In 1974, she joined the Stilettoes with Elda Gentile and Amanda Jones. They soon hired guitarist Chris, who became her boyfriend.

After leaving the Stilettoes, Debbie and Harry formed Angel and the Snake with Tish Bellomo and Snooky Bellomo.

Soon after, the pair formed the group Blondie, named after the catcall men shouted at Harry after she bleached her hair blonde.
