Brooke Shields, 57, had a close friendship with the late Michael Jackson but has since denied claims they were ever in a relationship. Back when the model was 28, the Thriller hitmaker announced they were in a relationship on live TV, prompting Brooke to hit back, branding the singer “pathetic”.
Brooke was in a happy relationship with actor Dean Cain in 1993, but the model claims this did not stop Michael from telling Oprah Winfrey they were dating.
The model has been promoting her upcoming documentary, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, which will be released on Hulu.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Brooke recalled Michael telling Oprah that she was his girlfriend, leaving her furious.
She said: “I called him up and I think I said, ‘This is kind of pathetic that you need to do this. I am having a shot at a normal life – you cannot drag me into a crazy town’.”
In response, Michael reportedly laughed at Brooke’s reaction to his claim.
Brooke replied when asked if they had ever shared a passionate moment: “No! There was one moment when we were in the car and the cameras were there and he grabbed me to kiss me, and I said, ‘No! Stop! We are just friends and you need me as a friend.’
“I remember the early days when other actresses were after him and he was kind of cute, before the shift. But it never ever crossed my mind.”
Brooke and Michael became friends in 1981 when she was 13 and he was 20, and they frequented award shows together often.
Brooke broke down in tears in the promotional trailer for her documentary as she spoke about being raped as a young woman.
She claims she was sexually assaulted following her graduation from Princeton University in the late eighties, with her admitting she was only brave enough to discuss it now.
The famous model broke down in tears as she discussed the attack, revealing that writing a letter about the traumatic incident had helped her.
She refused to feel like a “victim” and had “wanted to erase the whole thing from my mind and body and just keep on the path I was on”.
The former Vogue cover girl was hoping to make her way back into Hollywood films at the time.
Brooke alleges she was attacked by a man she thought was her “friend”, after the pair had dinner to discuss her film project dreams.
She claims she had picked up a pair of binoculars and was using them to watch some volleyball players out of the window when he returned naked.
Brooke claimed: “I put the binoculars down and he’s right on me. Just like wrestling. I was afraid I’d get choked out or something.
“So, I didn’t fight that much. I didn’t. I just absolutely froze.”
She informed her head of security, Gavin de Becker, about the incident, who she claims told her: “That’s rape.”
Brooke admitted she wasn’t “willing to believe that” and hasn’t detailed the incident publicly until now.
