BBC’s Carol Kirkwood reports ‘shunshine and showers’ at Wimbledon
BBC Breakfast’s weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has taken to Twitter to address an issue that comes with presenting the British weather.
The glamourous 61-year-old was broadcasting live from Wimbledon, which kicks off today, and had to use the words “sunshine and showers” quite frequently throughout the course of the morning.
Writing to her 251,300 followers, she joked about the phonetics.
“Occupational hazard… saying ‘sunshine and showers’ and not ‘shunshine and showers’. It is up there with ‘mist and fog’ coming out as ‘frog’ xxx,” she wrote.
The presenter didn’t seem at all flustered by this as she happily posed with sports presenter John Watson for a picture from the legendary tennis mecca, looking resplendent in a black V-necked, figure skimming dress with a pink rose print.

The tweet led fans to compare her to the original James Bond actor Sean Connery and his distinctive Scottish lilt.
@JFBUS10 tweeted phonetically to make their point commenting: “Shir Shean Connery made a career out of this.”(sic)
A fan using the handle @DavePea1 was also reminded of the James bond star, writing: “Sean Connery schtyle x.”(sic)
A user called @G6JPG_ made reference to the famous drink that is imbibed at the tennis tournament annually by joking: “Bit early for the Pimms, surely?”
Meanwhile a fan calling themselves @wugfus445 suggested other possible phonetic pitfalls asking: “How about drain and rizzle?”
BBC Breakfast’s weather presenter Carol Kirkwood has taken to Twitter to address an issue that comes with presenting the British weather.
Words are not usually an issue for Carol who is so good with them that she has a second career as a novelist, which she manages alongside her broadcasting work.
Her official author biography says that she was inspired to write her first novel by her passion for travel and her love of Hollywood glamour, and her book The Hotel on the Riviera was a Sunday Times bestseller last July.
However, her most popular novel according to Good Reads is Under a Greek Moon which she penned in 2021.
Her latest tome Secrets of the Villa Amore only hit bookshelves last Friday.
Set on the glittering shores of the Mediterranean, the romantic fiction sees two families gather for the wedding of the year.
Seemingly, scandal and intrigue are waiting to be revealed in what is described as a “compelling page-turner”.
