Carol Kirkwood breaks Twitter silence after three-week absence

BBC’s Carol Kirkwood tells Jon Kay ‘you can’t touch’

Carol Kirkwood has returned to Twitter after having last spoken on the platform on May 23.

The 61-year-old explained: “I changed my phone and lost all access to my Twitter account for the last 3 weeks.

“Huge thanks to Heather (especially) and Twitter Support for sorting it all out. It’s good to be back!!”

Although she is known for presenting the weather for BBC, Carol has also taken to sharing daily weather updates on social media.

This meant her absence was almost instantly felt by her 249,000 followers.

Some fans shared their relief in the comments as they had thought there was a purposeful reason behind her departure, as one explained: “Beginning to think we’d upset you.”

Others shared their own thanks to the support team, writing: “Thanks to Heather for rescuing our lovely Carol xx”

Another fan joked: “You’ll not believe the weather you’ve missed! It’s been wild!”

The BBC star quickly returned to her usual tweeting, sharing some positive weather forecasts noting: “For most it will be another warm sunny day.”

Throughout her Twitter silence, Carol has maintained her post as the beloved weather presenter on BBC, delivering news this last week of incredible temperatures and humidity as summer settles in.

However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for the star there either.

Carol has been filming on location over the past few days and on Monday appeared at the RSPB Arne in Dorset.

As Carol explained that thunderstorms were expected with the weather clearing up later in the week, she joked: “Jon and Sal, I don’t know about you two but I, for one, will be glad to see the back of this humidity.”

The camera feed returned to the studio where Jon Kay and Sally Nugent sat on the iconic red couch.

In a well-intentioned response, Sally shared: “Well, I love it Carol! Apart from the havoc with the hair, I think it’s great.”

Carol quickly reached a hand up to flatten her hair, questioning her costar: “What are you saying Sal?!”

Jon seemingly picked up on the blunder before anyone else as he could be heard laughing as the camera stay attuned to Carol.

Sally quickly shouted, assuring she hadn’t meant to offend Carol: “No I meant mine! Not yours.”

Carol let out a little giggle, adding: “I think mine’s gone awol as well.”
