Catherine Tyldesley in ‘frazzled’ post after ‘cancelling birthday over cakegate’

Catherine Tyldesley addresses and debunks ‘cake gate’ scandal

Catherine Tyldesley has spoken out for the first time on social media after reportedly pulling the plug on her extravagant 40th birthday celebration plans following a row over cake.

The former Corrie star, 39, took to Instagram to share a meme featuring a frazzled Barbie alongside the words: “Me trying to work, go to the gym, stay hydrated, not be broke, maintain a social life, and get 8 hours of sleep every night.”

Catherine simply added “Yup” as the caption of her Instagram Story post, hinting she can relate to the image.

It comes after a source claimed to The Mirror that the Eva Price actress felt “blindsided by Cakegate”, which saw events firm NVRLND trying to persuade a small bakery to make 100 cupcakes and a birthday cake for her in exchange for exposure.

“Cath was blindsided by Cakegate and found the whole thing very upsetting so she’s decided on a quieter celebration.

“She doesn’t blame NVRLND, but the whole situation left a sour taste so she felt it best to call it off,” the source told the publication.

Catherine was planning on throwing a big party to celebrate her milestone birthday, but when the owner of Three Little Birds bakery in Keighley, West Yorkshire publicly slammed the request to make the cakes for free, she is said to have changed her mind.

The baker fumed she couldn’t pay her mortgage or staff on payment “in the form of promotion on their socials”, so would have to say no to the “very generous” offer.

Although Catherine claimed the cake request from NVRLND was made without her knowledge, the soap star remained at the centre of the backlash, and is now reportedly reluctant to throw the party.

At the height of fallout, Catherine spoke out in an Instagram video she captioned “Cakegate – The Truth”.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant told her 646,000 followers: “Cakegate, what?! So, I had no idea those emails were being sent.

“I’m not working with the lovely OK! magazine on anything that I’m aware of and NVRLAND are an amazing company. They’ve supplied me with performers in the past.

“They’re insane and they’ve been completely misrepresented in this matter. Utterly bizarre. Don’t really know what to say.

“I mean I hope the cake lady got the exposure she was craving, whilst I’ve got journalists knocking on my front door while my kids are playing in the front room, dead nice that babes. Thanks for coming.”
