Daisy May Cooper is said to be in talks to join the James Bond franchise, as spy chief ‘M’, a role previously portrayed by Dame Judi Dench and Ralph Fiennes.
The This Country creator and star, 36, is thought to be top of the list of potential Ms, with producers looking to take the franchise, and its characters, in a different direction with the upcoming film.
The casting would coincide with a new leading man as well, with Daniel Craig departing the franchise following the release of No Time To Die in 2021.
While Daisy may seem like an unlikely choice, it's reportedly one that's come about, in part, due to her friendship with writer and actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has joined the production as a script consultant.
A source told The Sun: "Daisy is a close pal of Phoebe, whose involvement in Bond was such a success that it sparked an unlikely conversation.
"Suddenly the production team were getting excited about the prospect of really taking ‘M’ in a different direction. With Daniel leaving, it seemed the time to start looking at changes across the board and the dynamic between Bond and ‘M’ is at the heart of the films.
"So this opens the door to it being a bit lighter and more comedic going forwards — and will of course impact the direction the new 007 goes in too."
It has yet to be announced who will be replacing Daniel Craig in the iconic 007 role, and a number of famous actors have been suggested, with the likes of Idris Elba and Jamie Dornan being linked to the role for a long time.
According to OddsChecker, Avengers and Kick-Ass actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 32, is the favourite to takeover the iconic role.
And Puck News have reported that Aaron has even sat down with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, with sources claiming the meeting went "very well". However, the source added that nothing has been officially confirmed.
A recent newcomer to the potential Bond stars is Emily in Paris star Lucien Laviscount, however despite the buzz surrounding him a few months ago, these rumours appear to have since died down.
The actors trailing behind Aaron Taylor-Johnson as favourites are currently Henry Cavill, James Norton, and Regé-Jean Page.
Back in 2021, Regé-Jean said that he was “flattered” by the rumours that he will play the British culture icon, but did not confirm that he was in the running.
He told The Mirror: “Ah, the B word. I think that if you are British and you do anything of note, that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.”
He added: “I think that's fairly normal and I'm flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed. Nothing more – or less – than that.”
