Prince William and Princess Charlotte wish Lionesses good luck
Dan Walker said he “was not sure” why people were annoyed at Prince William for not attending today’s Women’s World Cup final, as if the royal did attend he would only have faced scrutiny over expenses and climate change repercussions.
The former BBC Breakfast host angered some fans with his comments, as they claimed Prince William was using the cost of such a trip as a “smokescreen” and that if it had been England in the Men’s World Cup final, he “would be there”.
Dan typed on Twitter: “I hope the Lionesses get it done today.
He added: “Not sure why some people are getting so angry about Prince William not going to the game.
“We all know he’d get hammered for the cost and climate impact of flying all the way to Australia for one football match. Come on England.”

On Instagram, Dan made sure to add in his caption: “Having said that… if I was him… I’d be there with the whole family.”
However, some critics disputed Dan’s claims, with one person writing: “I disagree, he’s head of the FA and if this had been the men’s World Cup final he would have been there most definitely.”
Another echoed: “I don’t agree Dan, we all know if it was the men’s world cup final he would be there and rightly so, he should of gone on this occasion and taken his family with him.”
Someone else chimed in: “Oh come on Dan…he’s head of the FA and the date should have been in his diary months ago…the cost and climate change issue is a smokescreen he’s hiding behind. Shameful!”

“Normally I’d agree with you Dan, but I think we all know he’d have been out there if it was the men,” tweeted another social media user.
Today England will play Spain in the Women’s World Cup final as the Lionesses look to bring home the game’s biggest prize for the first time.
The nation is set to come to a halt as England play their first World Cup final, men’s or women’s, in 57 years.

Prince William, who is president of the Football Association, sent the Lionesses a heartfelt message ahead of their big game, as he is unable to attend personally.
“Lionesses, I want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow. We’re sorry we can’t be there in person, but we are so proud of everything you have achieved and the millions you have inspired here and around the world.
“So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”
His grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, attended the 1966 men’s World Cup final at Wembley and presented England captain Bobby Moore with the trophy.
