Former Van Halen lead vocalist David Lee Roth recently shared a new version of The Kinks classic “You Really Got Me.”
The track was famously covered by Van Halen for the band’s 1978 self-titled debut album.
The new version of “You Really Got Me,” like the previously released “Dance The Night Away,” “Panama” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”, was recorded on May 3, 2022 as part of an extremely fast-paced session.
The singer was joined for the session by guitarist Al Estrada, bassist Ryan Wheeler and drummer Francis Valentino. The Roth band went into Henson Recording Studio and recorded 14 songs in two hours.
“You Really Got Me” was written by Ray Davies for English rock band the Kinks. The song was released in the U.K. on August 4, 1964 by Pye Records as the group’s third single.
Van Halen later covered the song for their 1978 self-titled debut album; it was released as their first single and peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100.
