David Mitchell has spoken out after his wife Victoria Coren Mitchell welcomed their second baby at 51.
Victoria shared their joyous news on social media on Wednesday, revealing her clothes no longer fit her after giving birth to their second child earlier in the week.
Victoria posted on X, previously known as Twitter: "Many people are assuming my tweet yesterday was a Halloween costume. Not at all; last week I had a baby and nothing currently fits me except cloaks. Luckily, Only Connect is a pre-record. Happy All Saints Day."
David responded to their new arrival with a brief but heartfelt comment on the same platform.
Replying to a tweet that read: "A huge congratulations to @RealDMitchell and @VictoriaCoren on the birth of their second child," he said: "Thank you! We're very happy."
The TV couple have named their daughter June Violet and they already have a daughter named Barbara, born in 2015.
The couple also announced their baby news in The Times, with a notice which read: "MITCHELL on 26th June October 2023 to Victoria and David, a daughter, June Violet sister to Barbara."
David and Victoria first bumped into each other at a Halloween party hosted by Jonathan Ross in 2007. Their mutual friend, comedian David Baddiel, played cupid and introduced them to each other.
Victoria confessed: "He specifically said to me, 'There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you.'"
In his autobiography published in 2012, David revealed: "I was pretty sure she was flirting, but was unwilling to believe my instincts as that seemed too good to be true."
The two hit it off instantly, but their first date didn't happen until 2010, as Victoria had just lost her father.
David, known for his role in Peep Show, patiently waited for three years before trying to win Victoria's heart again. He wrote: "I waited three years. Isn't that weird? Aren't I odd? I can't explain it other than to say I couldn't do anything else."
Love eventually blossomed between the pair and they welcomed their daughter Barbara Elizabeth June Mitchell in 2015.
In his book, David confessed he was "hopelessly in love" with his wife. "She's not only too wonderful, she's too right for me. She's funny, bright, sexy, nervous and confident in ways that could have been meant for me," he gushed.
Victoria is equally stunned to have landed David. "I mean, he's a hugely successful television comedian, he could have had a gorgeous 24-year-old skinny wife with a tiny nose and a string bikini, but he chose me! Me!" she told the Telegraph.
