Drew Carey has paid for striking writers’ meals for almost five months

As one Drew has become a public face for scabbing, another has quietly been supporting striking colleagues. Shortly after the writers went on strike in May, Drew Carey announced he would pay the tab on breakfasts and lunches (including tips!) at two LA restaurants for card-carrying WGA members. 140+ days later and Drew has kept up the generosity. Writer Ben Eltham noted on X (the artist formerly known as Twitter) that Carey’s check is now somewhere between $400,000 to $600,000. Mensch, thy name is Drew Carey.

While a tentative agreement was reached yesterday between WGA and AMPTP, the guild confirmed to members that nothing is finalized and therefore no one is to return to work — yet. So writers still have some time to enjoy free meals at Swingers Diner in LA proper or Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank. I am not a WGA member, nor am I in California. But if I were I would be ordering the All American for breakfast at Swingers (eggs over easy, sausage, one slice brioche french toast) and then pick up Pappy Parker’s™ Fried Chicken at Bob’s Big Boy for lunch. Bob’s is apparently located down the street from the Warner Bros. lot, making it convenient for pickets. Looking at a map on Google I didn’t find any studio near the diner. So I can only assume that Carey liked the pairing of Swingers and Big Boy (I don’t have a dirty mind, you do).
