Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward beam as they attend a Big Lunch for Coronation

Over 67,000 Big Lunch events will take place around the country this weekend in honour of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. And getting into the spirit of the joyous weekend, some members of the royal family have stepped out today to attend some of the events.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh headed to Cranleigh in Surrey for a 'Big Lunch' and greeted the crowds, many of whom were waving Union Jack flags.

Sophie Wessex was seen wearing a white and blue patterned dress, while Prince Edward looked smart in a green checkered blazer and white shirt. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also hosted a Coronation party at Downing Street and got into the spirit with his family. First Lady of the United States Jill Biden was one of the guests in attendance at the London bash.

Meanwhile, Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence are also due to attend a community street party in Swindon today.

The event held in the southern county, is part of an initiative by the Eden Project to bring neighbours and communities together. It appears today [Sunday 7th May] is the best day to host a party, as it's predicted to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Meanwhile, royal fans have started arriving in Windsor hours before the Coronation concert at 8pm this evening. People draped with Union flags and dressed in Union Flag dresses have been flooding off trains at the station.

The bash at Windsor Castle will see the likes of Take That, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry perform as the nation celebrates our King and Queen being crowned.

Olly Murs, Paloma Faith and Steve Winwood will also take to the stage, performing for lucky ticket holders in the grounds and those watching from home.

Today's celebrations follows yesterdays historic day where King Charles and Queen Camilla were crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey. The two hour service was witnessed in person by 2,000 VIP guests, including members of the royal family, celeb guests and friends, and millions around the world on TV.

Today Buckingham Palace have said they were “deeply touched” by the nation’s celebration of their historic Coronation.

A Palace spokesman said: “Their Majesties were deeply touched by the events of yesterday and profoundly grateful both to all those who helped to make it such a glorious occasion – and to the very many who turned out to show their support in such numbers in London and further afield.”
