The former pro basketball player explains his decision to limit comments on the 15-year-old’s posts after the teen shares pictures and videos from her modeling gig.
AceShowbiz –Dwyane Wade continues to being a protective father to Zaya Wade, who has received a lot of hate after he confirmed her transition in 2020. The former NBA star has taken an action to shield at least one of his children from the downside of social media.
On Thursday, September 29, comments on the teen’s Instagram posts were suddenly restricted. While a few comments, particularly the positive ones, still appear on the posts, not all of her followers can add new comments on them.
While the move may have left Zaya’s fans wondering, Dwyane quickly took to Twitter to address the decision, which he apparently took for the sake of his teen daughter. “For Zaya’s mental health and privacy we’ve decided not to allow the hate into her comments,” he wrote on the blue bird app, after someone apparently asked him to unlock the comments. He added, “Thank you for wanting to spread and send her love.”
Many have since supported Dwyane’s decision, with one responding to his tweet, “LOVE this protection for baby girl. I’m [sic] hope she knows she has a whole online community of support from a lot of us on here regardless.”
Another praised Dwyane, “This is how you parent. A lot of people could learn how to safeguard their children like @DwyaneWade does.” A third echoed the sentiment, “Look at this QUALITY parenting!” as another gushed, “Great parents, amazing daughter. Love to you all.” Someone else wrote on Instagram, “Yes, protect her as much as you can Dad.”
However, there were some naysayers who criticized the decision. “NOT FOR NOTHING DON’T PUT YOUR BUSINESS OUT ON A PUBLIC SITE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE THE COMMENTS,” the hater commented.
Another pointed out, “So do you think that actors, singers, professional athletes, etc should quit their jobs and go into hiding because they don’t want to see negative comments? Probably not, they usually just stop looking at the comments for the sake of their mental health.”
Dwyane blocked the comments on Zaya’s Instagram page after she posted photos and videos from her modeling gig. In one of her recent posts, the 15-year-old dressed in a floral off-shoulder pleated mini dress and sporting a half-up, half-down hairstyle. Meanwhile, her latest post featured her rocking a red long-sleeve dress with the same hairstyle.
