ITV's internal investigation into the Phillip Schofield fiasco, led by Jane Mulcahy KC, is yet to hear from Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth Langsford.
During the period of his resignation from the broadcaster this year, it was brought to light that Phillip, 61, had engaged in an affair with one of his young This Morning colleagues while still married to Stephanie Lowe.
In the aftermath of this revelation, Eamonn, 63, took it upon himself to publicly chastise ITV for allowing this to go on within their corridors – even alleging a "total cover-up" at one stage.
Now, insiders have told The Sun that Eamonn and co-presenter Ruth, 63, could blow the whole review wide open, should barrister Jane choose to approach them for insight.
"Eamonn has extensive knowledge of the atmosphere at This Morning and has said before he thought Phil’s affair was 'covered up'," they shared.
"He and Ruth were working on the show while it was going on. The fact he’s not been approached is leading to confusion as he could be key in helping engender change at ITV.
"If he and Ruth aren’t asked about what they know, it appears the investigation into This Morning and what went on may not be as thorough as people first believed it would be."
OK! has reached out to Eamonn and Ruth's representatives for comment.
Holly Willoughby and Kevin Lygo are two of the big names to have been reeled into the investigation.
"Holly was more than happy to do what was asked of her, and explain her position, and what she knew, and what she didn't," revealed a source for The Mirror last week.
Meanwhile, ITV managing director Kevin, 65, said at the Edinburgh TV Festival: "[Jane] has been talking to everybody involved, they take your phone and look at every single text you've ever sent, email, WhatsApp. So, everything is available, lots of interviews, talking to everybody and I hope as soon as possible, but probably in September, she will make that public."
On his outfit's handling of duty of care, he went on to promise: "We do, trust me, take it incredibly seriously. We haven't got anything to hide and if we can adapt and change our process to make it better, then we should do it on a continuing basis."
Back when the affair scandal first hit the headlines, Eamonn told GB News presenter Dan Wootton: "It’s a total cover-up. Those in authority had to know what was going on and they thought they would dodge a bullet with this. Which they do, and they do constantly, because with Schofield talking about those who speak out against him, namely me, Amanda Holden and you – you’ll be included in the toxicity that goes on. Dr Ranj [Singh], of course, as well.
"And you simply sit there and think 'No mate, you’ve had it all your way for too long'."
Despite this horrendous turn of events for him in a professional and personal sense, though, Phillip is soldiering on and may even publish a new tell-all memoir addressing everything.
