Eamonn Holmes says Phillip Schofield is not only guilty party after affair

TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has spoken out after Phillip Schofield announced in a statement that he had been involved in an affair with a younger man who worked on ITV’s This Morning.

In an apologetic statement, Phillip revealed that his affair was “unwise, but not illegal” after admitting that “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague”.

Former This Morning host Eamonn shared his thoughts in a tweet, stating Phillip is “not the only guilty party” over his affair.

Eamonn, 64, who has previously co-hosted This Morning with his wife Ruth Langsford, didn’t hold back as he spoke out on Phil and ITV managers in a tweet.

He wrote: "Schofield has finally been caught out … But he's not the only guilty party. 4 high members of Itv management knew what sort of man he was …and NEVER once took action to prevent him controlling or taking advantage of his position".

In a new statement, addressing the relationship, ITV have now said they first conducted an investigation into Phillip's rumoured relationship with an employee back in 2020.

"Further to our statement last night, ITV can confirm that when rumours of a relationship between Phillip Schofield and an employee of ITV first began to circulate in early 2020 ITV investigated," ITV has confirmed to OK!

"Both parties were questioned and both categorically and repeatedly denied the rumours as did Phillip's then agency YMU.

"In addition, ITV spoke to a number of people who worked on This Morning and were not provided with, and did not find, any evidence of a relationship beyond hearsay and rumour.

"Phillip’s statement yesterday reveals that he lied to people at ITV, from senior management to fellow presenters, to YMU, to the media and to others over this relationship."

This is not the first time this week that Eamonn has spoken out against Phillip as he appeared on GB News earlier this week and declared that “Phillip was sacked” from his role on This Morning, rather then stepping down on his own accord, something Phillip's representatives denied at the time.

Eamonn openly stated on the show: "Oh please just stop this. He was sacked. All this nonsense of 'I've decided to step down'. I’m sure you did – here’s your P45 now step down".

Eamonn also said of Phillip’s co-star Holly Willoughby as he discussed her statement following Phil's resignation from the show, and labelled the presenter “fake”.

Following Phil's "immediate" departure from the show, Holly wrote: "It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”

Not holding back, Eamonn said on GB News: “And she says: 'Oh, the couch will not be the same without him being there'.

"Well she wanted him not there. So what is she moaning about. They deserve each other I suppose".

He continued: "Holly is being as false as he is and nobody is talking about the elephant in the room.

"She says 'I thank him for all his knowledge, experience and humour'. All the things that she didn’t have when she came to the show. Well it’s true! I would call that stabbing in the back."

Eamonn then finished off and said: "I could give you a list of the lack of kindness and lack of awareness from both of them. How they would socialise, and the people around them.

"You just have to look at my phone, full of people who are glad to see the back of the two of them".

Eammon and Ruth hosted This Morning's Friday show from 2006 up until 2020 when they were replaced by Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond.

Regarding Philip's affair statement, an ITV Spokesperson said yesterday: "We are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield.

"The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust. Philip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down.

“We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated.”
