EastEnders Max Bowden gushes over Lola star Danielle Harold with BTS Soap Awards pics

EastEnders star Max Bowden, who plays Ben Mitchell on the long-running soap, has shared some sweet behind-the-scene photos from Saturday night's British Soap Awards

The photos saw Max, 28, celebrating EastEnders' numerous wins at the awards ceremony with a number of his co-stars.

In his caption, he sweetly gushed over co-star Danielle Harold, who picked up the gong for Best Leading Performer, following her departure from the soap after her character Lola Pearce passed away after suffering from a brain tumour.

Max wrote: "Finally the emotions of last night settling in. WHAT A NIGHT! After 12 months of serious hard graft watching our team SMASH IT last night at the soap awards was an honour. Four huge wins in four massive categories and so proud of them all.

"@danielle_harold, what you’ve achieved is mesmerising and I’ve never heard a crowd full of our fans and friends chant a characters name upon entry. That’s testament to your phenomenal work, passion and impact you have had on us all. I literally couldn’t be prouder man.

"Thank you so much to our wonderful fans, and everybody that voted for us to win best soap. This was such a team effort. @chris_clenshaw thank you for your care, and your drive, to tell ambitious stories, and tell them with diligence and risk. Honestly feel very privileged to have been there last night.

"I love our Enders family so much, and celebrating together till the early hours was so beautiful. Big love and see you next year for more of the same [red heart emoji]."

Commenting on the post, Danielle, 31, wrote: "what a night the best ending to the hardest year couldn’t love you more thank you for all your support last night and always we did it [heart emoji]".

Fans were also quick to comment on the snaps, with one writing: "well deserved eastenders should win every year."

"So proud and happy for you all, what a wonderful bunch you all are" added a second, while a third penned: "I felt very privileged and proud as a fan to be in the audience to witness EastEnders win Best Soap!

"It is truly well deserved and you are all incredible! My voice is a little croaky from all the shouting. Proud to be a supporter of both you and EastEnders."

Max previously opened up about the plot surrounding Lola’s final days as he shared that these scenes had been "the hardest he has ever had to deal with" because his pal died from the same illness almost two years ago.

Sharing a clip of the show on Instagram, he wrote: "This clip is from tonight’s episode. This storyline has been the hardest I have ever had to deal with. 21 months ago I lost my best friend in the world to an undiagnosed brain tumour.

"Friday afternoon we were on the phone for an hour discussing Ronaldo to united return, 24 hours later he went into a coma and never woke up.

"Coming to terms with this grief has been the most turbulent, overwhelming, impossible thing I have ever had to overcome, and telling this story with Lola has been a tough old ride but an incredibly rewarding one.

"When we lose someone, we never know how we’re going to feel, how we’re going to change. Ben is no exception."
