Fall Out Boy recently released an updated version of Billy Joel‘s classic hit “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”
Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” which was part of his Storm Front record, recounts the most important events of his life up until its release, covering the time period of 1949 to 1989.
Fall Out Boy’s rendition picks up where Joel left off, changing the lyrics to include news that made headlines from 1989 to 2023, including 9-11, school massacres, politics, climate change, the death of celebrities like Kurt Cobain and Michael Jackson, and conspiracy theories, including Qanon.
Fall Out Boy also mention cultural touchstones like Pokémon, Spongebob, and Harry Potter in addition to phenomenal athletes such as Michael Jordan, Lebron James, and the Williams sisters, as well as the 2016 World Series win of their hometown Chicago Cubs.
