Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has revealed the heartfelt promise she made to the late Queen Elizabeth before she died.
Fergie, 63, appeared on ITV's Loose Women, where she discussed her support for her former husband, Prince Andrew, the promise she made to the Queen, her life as a mother and 'glam-ma' and whether or not she would be attending King Charles' Coronation in May.
During the sit-down chat, she opened up on her close bond with Prince Andrew, who she married in 1986, split from in 1992 and officially divorced in 1996. The pair still live together in the Royal Lodge at Windsor, although they're thought to have separate quarters.
Fergie said: “We’re longer divorced than married and I believe in the three C’s, I found out that Walt Disney actually said there were five C’s but I say three C’s – communicate, compromise, compassion – and that’s what I do with him.
"We get on because in the darkest time of my life, he was always there for me and in the darkest part of his life, I will be there for him and the Queen of England was there for him, his mum.”
Speaking about the promise she made to the late Queen before her death in September 2022, Fergie said: “I said to her [the Queen] before she died, I will be there with him, I will help him on his journey. We’ve all got journeys. Just need to be there with kindness, no judgement and I will because he deserves it.”
Fergie was known to share a close bond with Queen Elizabeth, and she even took in the late monarch's beloved Corgis, Muick and Sandy, when the Queen passed away.
On inheriting two of the late Queen's Corgis, the Duchess revealed: “They are really good… I went to a dog whisperer and said, ‘Now tell me about grief’ and he said, ‘Just at night, make sure they have space’ so I do, because I think they were grieving. Their little tails went down and I wanted them to have waggy tails!”
Fergie admitted that she won't be attending the Coronation of King Charles in May, as she is no longer officially a part of the Royal Family, following her divorce from Andrew in 1996.
However, she will still be celebrating the historic day as she explained: “I personally will be having a little tea room and Coronation chicken sandwich and putting out the bunting, that’s what I’m going to be doing, because that would make me very happy.
“I also love to watch it on telly because you hear a lot on telly, the commentators' are always good and then everyone, all the family come back, because remember I am divorced from him so I don’t expect… you can’t have it both ways, you can’t be divorced and then say, ‘I want this…’ [You’re in] or you’re out.”
