Fern McCann has admitted that she knew some people 'wouldn't like' the unique name she has given her new baby girl.

The former TOWIE star gave birth to her first child with fiancé Lorri Haines on 6 July.

She is already a mother to five-year-old daughter Sunday, whom she shares with her jailed ex, Arthur Collins.

Exclusively revealing the name of her newborn to OK! magazine, Ferne shared that she has named her newest addition Finty Francis Haines.

After receiving mixed reactions from her fans over the unusual name, Ferne admitted on Instagram that she knew it would "split a few hairs."

Encouraging her fans to pick up a copy of her cover with OK!, she said, "The name, I knew it was going to split some hairs, but I just think if you go for a popular name, an unusual name, whatever name you go for, there is always going to be a few people that won't like it. That's the way it is."

She went on to explain that it wouldn't have made sense to give her new bundle of joy a more common name, saying: "We all grow into our names, and she's such a little Finty.

"Let's face it, I couldn't have gone for a bog-standard name because it had to go with Sunday.

"Like I named my daughter after a day of the week – the best day."

She then jokingly said to her almost three million followers, "Wednesday could have been a vibe."

The reality TV star told OK! magazine how she came up with the unusual moniker, revealing that she was inspired by British actress Dame Judi Dench.

Fern, 32, explained: "It was on my name list when I gave birth to Sunday. I don't know where I got it from, but when I typed it in [on Google], I saw Judi Dench's daughter's nickname is Finty.

"I've always loved it and never heard it anywhere else before.

"I just feel so connected to the name – she came out, and she was just Finty. I think she sounds like a character out of Bridgerton."

According to MummyPages, the name Finty "is a girl's name of English origin, meaning 'pure'."

It is understood that in 2019, there were only four babies given the name Finty across the whole of the UK.

Ferne also explained the sweet reason why she chose Francis for her daughter's middle name, sharing that she used the male spelling to honour a beloved family member.

Ferne said: "Francis is my grandad's name – it's a nod to Grandad Frank."
