Gemma Atkinson discusses her tattoo regrets
Gemma Atkinson has discussed why she isn’t keen for her children to have tattoos, despite her husband Gorka Marquez being “covered” in them.
The 38-year-old recently got candid regarding the “tough” parenting call she and the Strictly 2023 star may have to make in the distant future.
Opening up about tattoos on her new podcast, The Overshare with Gemma Atkinson, the host said: “It’s not a fear, but because Gorka’s covered, I say to him if there’s ever a time where Mia or [Thiago] says ‘can I have a tattoo?’ I will say absolutely not.
“Because I’ve had all of mine lasered off – I’ve got one on my neck that I left just because I can’t see it, it doesn’t bother me.”
However, Gemma went on to say that when her children are 18, she may not be able to “say no to them” because “their dad is covered”.

“So, how as a parent do you like – stop your kid from doing something that you’ve already done? When it’s physically there to see. They can say ‘well you’ve done it!’.
“It’s going to be tough, isn’t it for anyone who’s desperately trying to not have their kids do the same as them?”
Elsewhere during the podcast episode, titled ‘Bodies – why we love them, why we loathe them – Gemma revealed that Gorka, 33, opted to get the majority of his back tattooed so that he could cover up another piece of ink.
While discussing laser tattoo removal, the mum-of-two admitted: “Gorka, when we first met, had his own name tattooed on his back. It was like he was wearing a football shirt!

“He had ‘Gorka’ across his shoulder blades. Which, when I saw it, I said ‘That’s awful’ and he was like ‘Oh, I know, I hate it’.
“So he had it covered and he’s got now his full back tattooed and he said covering over the old ink was really, really painful.”
The actor then went on to advise listeners who want to get rid of ink to opt for laser removal, rather than go for a cover-up.
“A tattoo on an old tattoo is going to be painful anyway. So rather than just cover it up and potentially mess it up – just get it lasered, because it does really work.”
Gorka is currently dancing on the 21st series of Strictly Come Dancing alongside partner and BBC Asian Network presenter Nikita Kanda.
On Saturday (30 September) the duo are due to perform a Charleston to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’.
Watch Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One on Saturday at 6:20pm.
