Giovanni Pernice’s Strictly future after claims series could be his last

Strictly: Amanda Abbington withdraws from the show

Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice is said to be “devastated” over Amanda Abbington’s sudden exit from the show, with a source suggesting this series this could be his last.

The dancer’s celebrity partner announced she had left the show for “personal reasons” last week, which ended his hopes of winning the Glitterball trophy for a second time.

Now, it’s been said that the “really competitive” Strictly star, 33, has been “thinking about the future” and end his Strictly journey this year.

“If that’s the case, it’s a shame it’s ended this way,” a source told New! Magazine.

They added Amanda’s “shock” exit left everyone on the show “feeling so sad” particularly Giovanni.

The source continued: “In recent weeks, they all did everything they could to support her and really rallied around her. It’s like one big family on Strictly.

“However, it’s also a very tough competition – both physically and emotionally demanding. Giovanni is obviously upset that he’s no longer in the running for the trophy, but the whole situation has been quite hard for him to take in. He’s devastated.”

A spokesperson for Giovanni has since told Express.co.uk that such claims about his future on the show are “absolute nonsense”, giving hope that he could return next year.

The dancer joined the show back in 2015 and, after making it to three finals with his celebrity partners, won the Glitterball trophy for the first time with Rose Ayling-Ellis in 2021.

His most recent partner Amanda, 49, first pulled out of a live show earlier this month, citing medical reasons.

Fleur East later announced on Strictly: It Takes Two that she had left the competition for good.
