Holly Willoughby’s This Morning statement
Glee’s Sue Sylvester actress Jane Lynch, 62, baffled fans as she weighed in on the ongoing Phillip Schofield, 61, affair controversy.
The Glee star took to Twitter just hours after Holly Willoughby, 42, issued a statement on This Morning following the departure of her former co-host.
Sharing a clip of Holly on This Morning, Jane simply wrote in view of her 1.5 million followers: “She’s worried about the toll this whole thing has taken on Philip Schofield’s mental health.”
In response, one fan said their “mind was blown” that the furore surrounding the British morning TV show had reached the Hollywood actress.
One person said: “Omg this story has got so big celebrities in America. Are retweeting it.”
A second person added: “Has this news reached the USA, do you guys know who Phillip Schofield is?”
While another remarked: “Blows my mind how this story has reached @janemarielynch.”
Television presenter Holly returned to This Morning yesterday after a family holiday in Portugal.
On Saturday, May 20, Phillip announced he had left the ITV daytime programme and a week later, he admitted to lying about an affair with a much younger male colleague who worked as a runner.

And on Monday, Holly expressed her sadness over Phillip’s exit and said “we gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth”, while voicing concern for his mental health amid the fallout.
In her brief and emotional opening statement, Holly said she felt “shaken, troubled, let down and worried”, adding it “feels very strange indeed” to be back on the show without Phillip.
She said it was “equally hard to see the toll” the scandal has taken on Phillip, along with how it had affected others.
In her full statement, Holly said: “Hi there. Good morning. Josie [Gibson], thank you for being here. Right, deep breath. Firstly, are you OK? It feels very strange indeed sitting here without Phil.

“And I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on, and full of questions.
“You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV, and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process.
“And it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health. I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal for the health and wellbeing of everyone.
“I hope that, as we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us, we can find strength in each other.
“And, from my heart, can I just say thank you for all of your kind messages. And thank you for being here this morning. Myself, Josie [Gibson], Dermot [O’Leary], Alison [Hammond], Craig [Doyle], and every single person that works on this show will continue to work hard every single day to bring you this show that we love.”
