GMB fans are convinced Richard Madeley has 'been axed' as he hasn't anchored ITV's Good Morning Britain since August 10.
Monday marked seven weeks since the presenter was last on our screens, leading to speculation that the daytime TV veteran has been quietly dropped by the daily breakfast show.
Richard has been "missing" from his regular presenting seat since the middle of the summer when he was caught in an argument with politician, and now also the Secretary of State, James Cleverly who accused Richard of "interrupting" him during a fractious interview.
Taking to Twitter to air their concerns over Richard's whereabouts one viewer said: "Where's Richard Madeley? Has he been given the boot by GMB? Not seen him for ages."
Another said: "Has @GMB finally dumped Richard Madeley? He’s not been around for ages, thankfully."
And a third commented: "Has Madeley been sacked? Please tell me he has."
Richard has had an eventful summer though so perhaps is just making it last. He and wife Judy Finnegan welcomed another grandchild when daughter Chloe Madeley gave birth in August this year.
The presenter told OK! exclusively of the dramatic moment he found out Chloe was being rushed into theatre for an emergency c-section.
The Good Morning Britain presenter was live on air when he received the news from Chloe's husband James Haskell, 37, on the family’s group WhatsApp, which he opened during a commercial break.
Richard said: “She was born about 8.30am – I was on air – I was on GMB, and I really wanted to tell people but I obviously couldn't because it was too soon, and we had to make sure everything was alright and all of the rest of it."
He continued: “I was getting texts and emails from both her and James all the way through the programme – every time we hit a commercial break, I was opening them and something else would happen.
"I was telling my co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins, privately, ‘it’s all kicking off, she’s being induced, oh my god she’s having an emergency c-section’ – but obviously I didn’t say anything on air.”
While Richard was understandably apprehensive, he said he didn’t panic as his own children with wife Judy Finnegan – including Chloe – had all been born by C-section. The couple are also devoted parents to Chloe’s brother Jack, who has son Kit, four. And Judy shares twins Dan and Tom with her first husband David, and two granddaughters from Tom, who are nine and four.
Good Morning Britain is on ITV weekdays from 6am.
